2027 Indoor Percussion Parent Information

We are excited to begin another season with E.D. White Indoor Percussion! Below is some early information to help families begin planning for the upcoming year. Additional details will be added as they become available.

WGI World Championships

We are honored to announce that we will once again be attending the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio. This will be our third consecutive appearance at the World Championships, something our students, staff, parents, and school can all be proud of.

I hope to have an estimated cost range for the trip available by mid to late August so families can begin planning.

We have already secured the same hotel we used last year, and the hotel information is listed below on this page.

Just like last year, we plan to stay through World Class Finals on Saturday evening. This was an incredible experience for our students, and we want them to once again experience the excitement of watching the very best percussion ensembles in the world perform. We are also looking into purchasing improved seating this year if possible. More information will be shared as plans develop.

Interestingly, the last time our program attended three consecutive World Championships was 2005, 2006, and 2007.

Those who have attended Dayton know how well respected our program has become on the national stage. We are also honored that two of our promotional videos shared by WGI have reached millions of views, helping showcase not only our students but also E. D. White and our community.

While the awards and recognition are exciting, our primary goal has always remained the same—to create performances that bring joy and excitement to our audiences. There is nothing more rewarding than watching our students perform for thousands of spectators and seeing the incredible response they receive.

Rehearsal Calendar

The rehearsal calendar currently provides an outline of our rehearsal schedule along with our anticipated competition schedule.

The competitions that are already confirmed include:

  • Our E.D. White Indoor Show in February 13th.

  • WGI Regional in March 13th.

  • Circuit Championships in April 4th.

  • WGI World Championships in April 13th-18th.

Additional performance dates will be added as they are confirmed.

Please understand that while I do my very best to keep the rehearsal calendar consistent, our Tuesday and Thursday rehearsal times may occasionally change depending on gym availability.

Holiday rehearsals will also depend on facility availability. Our Mardi Gras Break rehearsals have already been secured at the Thibodaux Civic Center. Holiday rehearsals are intentionally scheduled near the beginning or end of school breaks so students can still enjoy quality time with their families.

I ask that whenever possible, families schedule appointments and travel around our published rehearsal schedule. Our rehearsal time together is limited, and every member's attendance is important.

Although our rehearsal schedule may seem busy, we actually rehearse less than many of the nationally competitive groups we perform against. Because of that, every rehearsal is extremely valuable. Over the years, we have proven that we can accomplish amazing things with the time we have—provided everyone is present and prepared.

Membership Information

One of the strengths of our program has always been the diversity of our membership. Our success has come from including:

  • E.D. White Percussion students

  • E.D. White Band students

  • Other E.D. White students

  • Elementary and middle school students

We welcome anyone interested in becoming part of our Indoor Percussion family to inquire about joining the program.

Membership Commitment

Different sections have different rehearsal requirements throughout the season.

Snare Drum, Tenors (Quads), Bass Drum, Marimba, Vibraphone, and Drum Set are our primary performing instruments. Members in these sections are expected to attend all rehearsals.

Toms, Rack Percussion, and Electronics are needed each receive their own schedule for rehearsals and are expected to attend every rehearsal that they are scheduled for. rehearsals. There may be times when these members are asked to arrive later in rehearsal after the primary ensemble has completed certain sections.

Each  groip will receive their own schedule for rehearsals and are expected to attend every rehearsal that they are scheduled for.

Our Cymbal Line is typically made up of many of our talented marching band members. They are expected to attend weekend rehearsals with the battery. If a Tuesday or Thursday rehearsal conflicts with a required concert band rehearsal, students should attend the concert band rehearsal first and then join Indoor Percussion immediately afterward if rehearsal is still in progress.

Prop Crew and Character Members will always be notified when they are needed. They generally begin attending once enough of the production has been learned so that their rehearsal time can be used efficiently.

All members are expected to maintain good academic standing throughout the season.

Looking Ahead

Every year this program continues to grow, and every year our students raise the standard a little higher.

We are excited about the opportunities ahead and grateful for the continued support of our parents, families, alumni, and community.

Thank you for trusting us with your students. We are looking forward to another unforgettable season.

The best is yet to come!

Get Involved! Elementary and Middle School Students in Indoor Percussion

We're thrilled to announce the opportunity for our future E.D. White Cardinal elementary and middle school students to participate in our award-winning Indoor Percussion Program!

For the past three seasons, we've successfully welcomed our younger students into the program and have witnessed incredible success. This unique involvement not only allows them to perform alongside our high school students but also exposes them to the highest level of the activity. This year, the program will once again be traveling to the World Championships in Dayton, Ohio, and there's nothing quite like the experience of our youngest members performing with us and seeing the world's top performances at such an early age.

Who Can Participate?

Participation is open to any current elementary or middle school student who is planning on attending E.D. White High School once they reach high school. This includes students from our public feeder schools and our private feeder schools. The key requirement is a genuine commitment to attending E.D. White.

While open to all students in these age groups, involvement is ultimately based on an individual student's ability to handle the skills given to them for their specific role.

Special Note on Character Roles: We are specifically looking for three young boys who appear to be elementary or middle school age to fill crucial character roles in our show. One of these roles will have a main part in the second movement. While the ability to perform is a plus, we are happy to work with any student who is willing to accept performance instruction for the role!

Commitment and Travel

We want to make this a low-stress and easy commitment for both the students and their parents. All involvement for elementary students is designed to be a low-stress introduction to the activity based on their skills.

  • Travel: Elementary and middle school students do not travel with the main group for competitions outside of the local area.

  • Performances: It is the responsibility of the parents to transport the student to and from all local performances.
